The qualification systems for 2009 and 2010 have just been agreed in which the Youth World Champion and RS:X U21 champion will be awarded pre-qualified places at the World Championship for the Olympic Fleets.
Similarly the Youth European Champion and the winner of the U21 Championship raced at that event will win pre-qualified places at the European Championship for the Olympic fleets. None of these pre-qualified places are transferable so they cannot be taken away from those strong enough to win them.
The class is keen to develop youth racing and therefore has decided to ensure that its Youth and U21 Champions are given every opportunity to progress by racing the established Olympic stars.
This means that racers competing at the 2008 RS:X Youth European Championship to be staged in Mondello, Sicily from July 26th will be racing for a guarranteed place at the 2009 RS:X European Championships in Tel Avis, Israel.
And similarly, those entered for the 2008 RS:X Youth World Championship to be staged in Pattaya, Thailand from December 6th will be racing for a guarranteed place at the 2009 RS:X World Championship in Weymouth, England.
The same applies to those entered for the U21 Championships raced at the same regattas. The U21 racer who wins his division in Mondello gets a place in Tel Aviv. The U21 racer who wins in Pattaya gets a place in Weymouth.
This is a big boost to young men and women wishing to break into the Olympic fleets. Go for it!
