The Castle Cove Sailing Club is in the ‘old’ Sailing Centre just across Portland Harbour from the 2012 Olympic Venue (Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy). Castle Cove is a designated 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp, in partnership with Weymouth College. The WPNSA is only available for training for one week before each of the regattas scheduled up to and including the 2012 Games, whereas CCSC is available for training purposes throughout the year.
The following dates have been scheduled at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.
Year | Month | Date | Event |
2009 | Sept | 3-11 | RS:X World Championship |
Sept | 14-19 | Sail For Gold
2010 | Aug | 2-7 | Sail For Gold (Test Event) |
2011 | June | 6-11 | Sail For Gold |
Aug | 1-13 | Pre-Olympic Regatta
2012 | July | 27-12 | Olympic Regatta |
CCSC, with immediate access to the Games’ waters and all the facilities of a vibrant sailing club, plus further facilities at Weymouth College (e.g., gym and storage,) is an excellent centre for windsurfer training before each of the regattas and at other times in the year.
The web address for our training camp is: www.2012sailingcamp.co.uk. MNAs should contact the CCSC directly to negotiate dates and prices for training camps through Andrea Fellows [email protected], the first point of contact. CCSC’s own website is www.ccsc.org.uk.
There are some limitations on the use of CCSC facilties. Visiting Teams should therefore contract with the CCSC in advance. Contracts will be agreed on a first come first served basis. Priority will be given to those who contract with the CCSC from 2009 through to 2012.
