2010 Youth World Championship: Bid received from SFYC

The St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco have lodged their bid for the 2010 RS:X Youth World Championship which they would like to run as a combined event with the Bic Techno World Championship making a festival of windsurfing.

For strong windsurfing nations like Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan flying to  San Francisco through Los Angeles would be much less expensive than having to make the trip to Europe. For Europeans, it is a 12 hour flight but the route to Los Angeles is well served by airlines so, if bookings are made early enough, costs would be manageable.

St. Francis Yacht Club offers one of the most recognizable and spectacular venues in the world with racing close to the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island and with the San Francisco City skyline as a backdrop. An awesome venue!

Race management is nothing less than the best. The SFYC employ a full time race manager who knows his business!… and the wind? well check out the video at http://2010worldchampionship.blogspot.com/ and you’ll see that they have some pretty full-on conditions!

There are fourteen nearby hostels, one within walking distance from the St. Francis Yacht Club (located at Fort Mason with beds from $22 and run by Hostelling International). The Club is working with local colleges for dormitory housing. There are a number of hotels in the Marina District of San Francisco walking distance from St. Francis Yacht Club (with room rates starting at $85 from the Coventry Motor Inn utilizing the club’s discout rate). Depending on demand, the club is happy to look into reserving a block of rooms for the event.

This is a great opportunity and one that the RS:X class should not pass up. The acceptance of this bid should be made a priority. Check out the bid at http://2010worldchampionship.blogspot.com/
