RC intentions for Saturday - January 19th

The first warning signal shall be at 1200hrs. Each board will sail one race either in the gold, silver or medal race fleets. The class flag for the Men’s Medal Race is Yellow. The class flag for the Women’s Medal Race is Pink

Olympic Qualification battle going into race nine

Twelve countries are fighting it out in the women’s silver fleet for one of seven Olympic places to be decided at the RS:X Windsurfing World Championships in Takapuna. Lying third in the silver fleet Napalai Tansai of Thailand is best placed going into day five of the regatta and looks set to earn a place for her country. Mexico, Hungary, Argentina, Russia, Cyprus and USA are in line to earn a place based on current standings (more…)

The Battle for Olympic Qualification

Australia, Korea , Russia and Thailand are now assured of a place in the men’s RS:X for the 2008 Olympic Games.Each has a sailor in the top half of the men’s fleet here at the 2008 RS:X World Championships and will now race in the gold fleet for the remaining races. A further fifteen nations yet to qualify will fight it out in the silver fleet for five places still available. (more…)

Changing of the Colours

Today, Friday and Saturday the top three placed sailors in the Women’s and Men’s fleets will be presented with a coloured vest and sail sticker to wear on the water for the day. This will happen at 10am in front of the sponsor board on the grass outside the yacht club. (more…)

Gusty winds challenge windsurfers on day three

Windsurfers at the 2008 RS:X World Championships waited ashore with another postponement on day three of the regatta until a breeze filled from the south and racing started just before 2o’clock. The local sailors lead with both Tom Ashley and Barbara Kendall topping the leader board going into the rest day. (more…)
