2010 Semaine Olympique Francaise:RS:X Day 2 - Racing in the Light Stuff

E-mail Print PDF
Light conditions continued into day 2 of this the 4th stop on the ISAF Sailing World Cup. But at least the RS:X Men and RS:X Women put in two races each today.

Shahar Zubari [ISR11] who normally excels in these conditions put in a 'shocker' in race 2 of the day finishing 21st and dropping deep into the pack where he will remain until the discard kicks in.

Over in the women's fleet, it is much the same story for Marina Alabau [ESP5], the current RS:X World Champion, who got black flagged on the 2nd start of the day and collected 40 points in the process.

So that covers the bad news...

On a lighter note, Bryony Shaw [GBR94] tops the leader board with a 4 point lead over Charline Picon [FRA4] and Pauline Perrin [FRA81]. Back in 4th is Zofia Klepacka [POL8] who 8 points off the leader with Chan Wai Kei [HKG8] one point back in 5th.

After her bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Regatta in Quingdao, Bryony now believes that she can win every time she goes out to race. In short she is transformed  and can now be considered a threat to anyone even the great Alessandra Sensini [ITA] who is sadly not racing in Hyeres this year due to unforeseen circumstances.

Over in the men's fleet it is business as usual for the RS:X World Champion, Nick Dempsey [GBR1] and RS:X Vice World Champion Nimrod Mashiah [ISR21] who occupy 2nd and 3rd overall respectively.

They are in a Polish sandwich, on the top is Piotr Myszka [POL82] and below Przemyslaw Miarczynski [POL126]
