La Semaine Olympique Francaise: Day 5

E-mail Print PDF

It's tight at the top of the RS:X Men's windsurfing fleet
at La Semaine Olympique Francaise, the 4th stop on
the ISAF Sailing World Cup.

Just 6 points cover the top 4

With points counting double in the medal race tomorrow that equates to just 3 places on the water. Piotr Myszka (POL), the RS:X World Windsurfing Champion is on fire. He broke through in Kerteminde, Denmark last year and is now almost unstoppable

Whereas before he merely believed he could win now he knows. He is a contender for more than just a win here in Hyeres and everyone knows it.

Back in 2007 the finishing order here in the south of France was Tom Ashley (NZL) 1st, Julien Bontemps (FRA) 2nd and Shahar Zubari (ISR) 3rd. That's how it finished in the 2008 Olympic Regatta. Here we are 4 years later and the same guys are there at the pinnacle of the RS:X Men's racing world.

The difference being Piotr and he is the man on form right now...

Over in the RS:X Women's Windsurfing Fleet, Blanca Manchon (ESP) has not released her stranglehold on the top spot. She leads Charline Picon (FRA) by 9 points and just has to sail conservatively tomorrow to take the win.

Peina Chen (CHN) bounced back today to take the bronze medal position from Alessandra Sensini (ITA) but by only 2 points. 3 points back Bryony Shaw (GBR) is certain to want to get involved in this 'discussion' tomorrow. She knows that there is still a chance that she can snatch the bronze medal at the last gasp.

So if you can tear yourself away from the Royal Wedding tomorrow there will be plenty of action to watch LIVE here in Hyeres. The medal races will be fascinating ...
