HOW TO GET TO HELSINKI FOR THE RS/X EVENTS
Dear RS/X sailors, coaches and supporters,
The European summer and the Europeans event are approaching. Probably you are already planning your trips to the various events. Here is some advice on how to get to Helsinki:
1. By air
Helsinki/Vantaa International Airport is located abt 22 km N of the Hernesaari venue. It is well connected to most key destinations and especially flights to Asian cities are frequent.
From the airport you can reach Downtown Helsinki by Airport bus or train (abt 6-7 €), grouped taxi (abt 25€) or private taxi (50€)
Most major international car rental companies have offices at the airport.
2. By sea
If you want to bring your car to Helsinki, you will have to take a ferry for part of the trip – unless you drive over Haparanda and Tornio, which adds some 2.000 km to the trip.
Ferry connections are available from Germany (Travemünde), Sweden (Stockholm, Kapellskär) and from Tallinn.
If you want to minimize your ferry trip, then Tallinn is your choice. But that is obviously compensated by the longer distance ashore.
The major ferry companies are Viking Line, Silja/Tallink and Finnlines. More information on their internet sites.
Finnlines offers special pricing between Travemünde and Helsinki on specified dates.
Attached is a price list including instructions for booking. Note that trips booked under those conditions cannot be cancelled and have to be paid immediately.

Note also that the RS/X Europeans event takes place during the main holiday season. This means that ferries tend to be full so it is important to book early.
